Chongqing is located in the southeast of the Sichuan Basin. The old city lies against mountains on one side and is bordered by rivers on the other three sides, looking like a peninsular. It is a city perched on undulating hills.

Located in the Sichuan Basin, Chongqing has plenty of rain and high humidity. In winter, it is mostly foggy, while in summer it becomes one of the three "hot-like-a-stove"cities along the Yangtze River.

Chongqing has attractive scenery, especially at night. In the downtown area, there are the northern and southern hot spring parks, and there are many famous scenic spots and historic sites on the outskirts, such as the Dazu Stone Carvings, etc.

  Northern Hot Spring Park

Located on the bank of the Jialing River, the Northern Hot Spring Park lies against mountains and water with beautiful scenery. The park takes the four halls rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty as the center. Old trees tower into the sky in the Garden of Classical Fragrance east of the park, which is a good place for tourists to have a rest; in the Garden of Stone Carvings there is a cultural relic of the Ming Dynasty, the two-meter-tall Tower of Coiled Dragon which was carved out of rock. There are also winding caves with hot spring swimming pools.

  The Dazu Stone Carvings

The sculptures of the Dazu Stone Carvings were created during the Tang and Song dynasties. There are more than 50,000 statues, varied in gestures and expressions, which are very rare among Chinese stone statues; UNESCO lists them as world cultural relics.
