Suzhou, located in south of Jiangsu Province, is not only a famous historical and cultural city but also a modern city with a developed economy, excellent investment environment and high degree of opening up to the outside world. The industrialized area and the new area of Suzhou have attracted many foreign businessmen to invest. Its new and high-tech products develop very fast.

There are many gardens in Suzhou, which is reputed to be "a city of gardens".There is a saying about it that goes "ardens in area south of the Yangtze River are the best in the world, while gardens in Suzhou are the best in the area south of the Yangtze River". The city is crisscrossed with streams and more than 380 bridges, creating a "Venice of the East".

In December 1997, UNESCO listed the classical gardens of Suzhou as a world cultural heritage site.

There are four famous gardens in Suzhou: the Canglang Garden, Lion Garden, Humble Administrator's Garden and the Liu Garden. They represent the architectural styles of the Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties respectively.

  Canglang Garden

The Canglang Garden is the oldest famous garden in Suzhou. Built by Su Zimei, a poet in the Song Dynasty, the garden is centered on man-made hills on which there are ancient trees. The famous Canglang Pavilion is hidden among the trees.

  The Lion Garden

The Lion Garden is the representative of the gardens of the Yuan Dynasty (1206 -1368 AD). It is famous for artificial hills piled by rocks from the Taihu Lake. Many of the rocks look like lions in various gestures, hence its name.

  The Humble Administrator's Garden

The Humble Administrator's Garden, built in the Ming Dynasty, is divided into three parts: the eastern, middle and western gardens.

The Middle Garden is the essential part. With the pool in the center, the architect designed pavilions, terraces and buildings near the water, and some of them are in the water, with characteristic of areas south of the Yangtze River.

  The Liu Garden

The Liu Garden has the style of the gardens of the Qing Dynasty. It takes the pool as the center, while the Hill House of Containing Green and the Building of Bright Zither to the south of the pool are the main buildings; to the north of the pool are artificial hills and pavilions amid trees; to the west, the Veranda of Smelling Sweet-scented Osmanthus on a man-made hill is the best spot to overlook the whole garden and is connected with other places by promenades; the eastern side of the pool is characterized by winding courtyards and corridors. There are three rocky hills. The one in the middle is called Cloud-Capped Hill. It is about nine meters long and is the biggest rock from the Taihu Lake.
